Vintage Native American Hand-Woven Turtle Basket.
Offered is a beautiful vintage hand-woven Native American figural turtle basket, measuring approximately 10\" long × 7½\" wide × 4\" high.
This is an especially attractive and unusual piece of traditional basketry, featuring a three-dimensional turtle form with four sculptural feet and a hinged, removable-style shell that opens to reveal a spacious woven interior. The shell is decorated with an intricate concentric pattern in natural straw and dark gray/black fibers, giving the basket a striking appearance from every angle.
The basket exhibits the meticulous handwork characteristic of traditional Southwestern Native American basketry. The tight coiling, detailed stitching, natural materials, and sculptural construction make this much more than an ordinary decorative basket—it is a distinctive piece of folk and Native American-inspired art that would make an excellent addition to a basketry, Southwestern, or Native American art collection.
