Vintage Mexican-style papier-mâché clown figurine holding a blue balloon, featuring a wonderfully unusual hand-painted face, bright green textured hair, oversized green shoes, orange pants, red shirt, and a decorative lace-style collar.
A fantastic piece of vintage folk art with lots of character. The clown has a quirky, slightly creepy appearance that makes it especially fun for Halloween decorating, a spooky carnival or circus display, or a collection of vintage clowns and Mexican folk art.
Approximate measurements:• Clown figure: approximately 5.5” tall• Balloon with wire: approximately 5.5–6” long from the clown’s hand to the top of the balloon
Please note that the balloon is attached to a flexible wire, so the overall height of the piece varies depending on the position and bend of the wire.
CONDITION:Vintage pre-owned condition with noticeable age-related wear, surface dirt/dust, paint loss, scuffs, discoloration, and other imperfections throughout.
There appears to be possible old repair/glue or construction residue around the hand where the balloon wire attaches. Because these handmade papier-mâché pieces are fragile and irregular by nature, I cannot determine whether this represents an old repair or part of the original construction. Please examine the close-up photographs carefully.
The piece has NOT been cleaned. I intentionally left it as found because I did not want to risk damaging the old painted papier-mâché surface.
The balloon and thin wire are delicate. Please review all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.
