Up for sale is a beautiful, large vintage Olinalá lacquerware tray, masterfully handcrafted in Guerrero, Mexico. This authentic piece of Mexican folk art showcases the stunning, pre-Hispanic rayado (grooved/scratched) lacquer technique, making it a perfect addition to a Boho, Eclectic, or Mid-Century Modern interior.
Artistry & Design:
This tray features a striking dual-layer finish, with a dense black matte overlay precisely etched away to reveal a vibrant red-pink lacquer base coat. The central field is decorated in the traditional "Fantasia Animal" motif, showcasing intricate stylized deer, squirrels, birds, and blooming floral elements native to Mexico. The scene is beautifully framed by multi-tiered geometric borders.

Condition:
The tray is in good vintage condition and displays beautifully. The central incised artwork remains crisp, vibrant, and completely intact. As is normal and expected for authentic, aged chia-oil and organic lacquers, there is visible minor chipping, paint loss, and superficial scuffing along the outer edges, rim, and corners (please review the close-up photos). All corners show a similar level of authentic vintage wear. The solid red underside shows standard light scuffing from historical display.
