$199.99

Item: Vintage Mid-Century Pacific Northwest Coast Hand-Carved Wood RattleEstimated Era: Mid-20th Century (c. 1950s–1970s)Subject/Motif: Stylized Whale / OrcaCondition: Excellent vintage condition. Structurally sound with a tightly sealed central chamber seam and a beautiful naturally aged patina. (Please see photos for details).Item Overview:Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic mid-century Pacific Northwest Coast style ceremonial or model rattle. Hand-carved from solid regional wood, this piece displays fantastic craftsmanship characteristic of coastal First Nations artwork from the mid-20th century.Key Features & Collector Details:Authentic Hand-Carved Texture: The front of the piece features deeply gouged, multi-layered formline detailing around a classic ovoid eye motif. The reverse side and handle showcase wonderful, crisp adze-like tool facets—proving this was entirely chiseled by hand, not machine-replicated or heavily sanded down.Functional Internal Rattle: When shaken, the piece produces a distinct, crisp internal rattling sound from pebbles or seeds sealed inside the hollowed core.Traditional Two-Piece Construction: The vertical seam running down the side of the rattle chamber is exceptionally tight and stable, showing expert hidden joinery without any modern metal fasteners or visible sinew wrapping.Vintage Provenance: The uniform dark stain has aged beautifully with a soft, handled patina. The reverse side features a partial remnant of an original vintage paper shop/gallery label, validating its age and history as a mid-century collector's piece. The label has been left completely untouched to preserve its historical integrity. This is a wonderful, highly displayable piece of tribal art perfect for collectors of Pacific Northwest Coast carvings or mid-century design.Shipping & Handling:Will be packed with extreme care using high-quality protective materials to ensure safe transit. Ships promptly. Please review all high-resolution photos as they form part of the visual description.
