This Vintage Lord of the Rings Pewter 1979 Limited Edition full set of 12 Figurines has had one faithful owner since its release. This set was offered as a premium mail-order perk for certain American Express cardholders. It was considered a very high end collection at the time, the figurines based upon the Ralph Bakshi animated film version of 1978. These figurines were authorized about 25 years after the book trilogy was first published in 1954/55.
The figurines are solid, not flimsy, and the fine detailing is quite impressive. As noted, the pewter patina varies between the 12 figurines. Boromir alone was cleaned about a decade ago, so his overall patina is therefore definitely brighter than the others, although still showing age. The bases that they stand on have gathered varying degrees of darkness over the years. I have chosen not to make the figurines shiny and new looking. I find that pewter, as it ages, warms beautifully and gains character. I leave that to the buyer. I have documented examples of these variances in the pictures. The tallest stands about 3.25", and the shortest about 2".
