Vintage hand-painted ceramic character jug in the form of a laughing man with tousled red hair, arched brows, bright blue eyes, and a wide open-mouthed grin. He wears a white collar, black jacket, and a cheerful yellow bow tie with purple polka dots. A cream-colored loop handle arcs from the back of the head down to the base. The jug stands approximately 5 1/4 inches tall at its tallest point.
The sculpting is full of personality, with deep brow and cheek lines, a pointed hairline that forms the rim, and fully modeled ears on each side. Condition:Vintage, used condition with notable wear consistent with age and handling. Observed flaws include small glaze chips on the tip of the nose, the left eyebrow, the lower lip, and the tips of both ears. There are chips and glaze loss along the white collar edges on both sides of the chin and a chip at one corner of the bow tie. The hair rim has scattered small chips and rubbed areas where the brown paint has worn, including a chip on the inner rim edge. A hairline is observed where the handle joins the body at the base. Crazing is present throughout the glaze, inside and out. The interior shows light staining and surface grime, and there is minor staining on the handle and collar. There are no missing pieces, and the handle is attached. Sold as-is for display.
