Add a genuine piece of American railroad history to your office, railroad room, collection, or display with this Vintage Kansas City Southern Lines Perpetual Desk Calendar Display featuring the iconic KCS “Route of the Southern Belle” branding.
This is a fantastic piece of vintage railroadiana and mid-century transportation advertising, produced by the well-known Columbian Art Works, Inc. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The display prominently features the classic Kansas City Southern Lines octagonal herald in its distinctive red, white, black, cream, and slate-gray color scheme, along with the famous “Route of the Southern Belle” slogan.
For collectors, the Southern Belle connection makes this especially appealing. The legendary Southern Belle passenger service connected Kansas City with New Orleans and became one of the signature passenger trains associated with the Kansas City Southern system. The service operated from 1940 through 1969, placing this advertising piece firmly in the golden age of American passenger railroading.
🚂 AUTHENTIC KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN RAILROADANA
This isn’t a modern reproduction or newly manufactured railroad decoration. It is an original vintage advertising/display piece associated with Kansas City Southern Lines.
The front features the recognizable KCS herald and period graphics, while the base proudly promotes the “Route of the Southern Belle.” It has exactly the kind of graphic design and construction that makes vintage railroad advertising so desirable to collectors of transportation history and Americana.

Having the original manufacturer’s identification adds authenticity and makes this more interesting than an otherwise unidentified vintage railroad advertising display.
🛤️ THE SOUTHERN BELLE CONNECTION
The Southern Belle was one of Kansas City Southern’s most recognizable passenger trains, operating between Kansas City and New Orleans from 1940 to 1969.
That history gives this otherwise functional office/calendar item an additional layer of appeal. It represents an era when American railroads weren’t simply transportation companies — they were major symbols of American travel, industry, commerce, and design.
This would make an excellent addition to a collection focused on:
Kansas City Southern • Railroadiana • Railroad Advertising • Passenger Trains • Southern Belle • Transportation History • Mid-Century Americana • Model Railroading
📐 CONSTRUCTION
The main display is constructed from a heavy pressed cardboard/cardstock faceplate mounted to a wedge-shaped desktop backing.
The center incorporates a substantial black metal bracket designed to hold the individual perpetual-calendar cards. The construction gives the piece considerably more presence than a simple paper advertising calendar.
🔎 CONDITION
Excellent vintage condition overall.
The lithographed graphics remain sharp, vibrant, and highly attractive, with only minimal edge wear and superficial signs of age. The piece retains a wonderful authentic vintage appearance without looking excessively worn or abused.
There are some minor cosmetic imperfections consistent with age and previous use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as the high-resolution photos are considered part of the description and show the exact item you will receive.
⚠️ COMPLETENESS / WHAT IS INCLUDED
IMPORTANT: This listing is for the vintage Kansas City Southern Lines calendar display/frame and metal calendar bracket ONLY.
