Four-Blade Congress | Pattern 5514 | Circa 1960s
Here’s a handsome vintage John Primble four-blade Congress carrying the older Belknap Hardware & Mfg. Co. tang stamp.
Belknap Hardware, headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, was one of America’s historic hardware distributors. Its John Primble pocketknives have developed a loyal following among traditional cutlery collectors.
This example features the 5514 pattern number with the distinctive star marking.

🔍 COLLECTOR’S OBSERVATIONS
What stands out on this particular Congress is the combination of its deeply jigged black handles, distinctive bolsters, and older Belknap stamping.
The blades retain respectable profiles while displaying the natural patina and character acquired through years of use. Mechanically, the knife remains in good working order.
An attractive example of vintage John Primble cutlery that would fit nicely into a traditional Congress collection.
