Charming vintage Japanese dorei (土鈴) clay bell in the form of a traditional Hina doll.This petite Japanese folk-art piece features a rounded cream-white body with a serene court-style face, gold-tone headpiece, colorful hand-painted details and an orange braided cord with tassels. The underside has the traditional elongated bell opening as well as an impressed maker/potter’s mark.Dorei, also called tsuchi-suzu, are traditional Japanese earthenware bells. This example depicts a Hina doll associated with Japan’s Hinamatsuri or Doll Festival.Details: approximately 3” tall × 3” wide; ceramic/earthenware clay; painted decoration; orange braided cord; impressed mark on underside; Japan; likely mid-to-late 20th century.Condition: Good vintage condition with age-related surface wear, scuffs and some loss/wear to the painted decoration.
