$55.00

Vintage Henry Disston & Sons D-8 26" Rip Hand SawGolden Age Handle (1896–1917) with Later Factory Blade (c. 1928–1940)

This is an authentic period combination commonly found on working saws. Woodworkers often retained their favorite older Disston handles and installed them on newer factory replacement blades as the originals wore out.

The result is a fascinating piece of American woodworking history that reflects decades of practical use rather than modern restoration.

Dating

The handle dates to approximately1896–1917, based on the original brass medallion and handle details associated with Disston's celebrated "Golden Age" production period.

The blade bears the later factory etch used approximately1928–1940, indicating it was replaced during the saw's working life.

This type of period handle/blade combination is well documented among vintage Disston saws and reflects how professional craftsmen maintained quality tools for decades.

  • Strong, dark, highly legible factory etch
  • Factory "4" pitch stamp visible near the heel
  • Full-length blade with honest age patina
  • No visible cracks
  • Blade Tip

The blade is straight throughout most of its length. There is a localized bend at the toe affecting the upper edge and first few inches of the blade (shown in the photographs). This area could be straightened by an experienced saw restorer if desired and does not diminish the saw's value as an excellent restoration candidate.

    Handle
    • Original applewood handle
    • Tight and secure
    • Both horns intact
    • No major cracks, repairs, or structural damage
    • Small age check along the inside curve of the grip, shown in the photos, appears stable
    • Attractive natural color and honest wear consistent with age
    Please Note

This saw hasnotbeen refinished or artificially restored. It retains the honest character, patina, and signs of use expected from an authentic vintage tool approaching a century in age.

Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
