Up for sale is a striking, vintage mid-century decorative sculpture depicting a traditional Hungarian Csikós (horse wrangler / cowboy) alongside his horse. This dynamic composition is modeled directly after the famous "Horse Wrangler" monument by legendary sculptor György Vastagh Jr., which originally debuted at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition and stands at the Royal Riding School at Buda Castle in Budapest.
Provenence & Historical Context:
This specific piece represents Hungary’s mid-20th-century decorative export era. During this period, state-managed foundries produced downscaled, authorized interpretations of their nation's most celebrated cultural landmarks. These pieces were manufactured specifically for Western export to satisfy the booming global demand for mid-century European art and equestrian decor.
Features & Details:
Composition: Cast metal exterior with an intricate, textured surface and a beautiful, burnished metallic bronze lacquer finish.
Weight & Base: This piece features an incredible, premium heavy heft, due to its solid, dense plaster/architectural chalk-filled base. It makes a magnificent, robust table accent or heavy mantel centerpiece.
Markings: Features an authentic, crisp "MADE IN HUNGARY" stamp incised directly into the mold on the outer rim of the base (see photos for detail).
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The metallic finish displays a rich, authentic aged patina with very minor surface paint wear consistent with age, revealing glimpses of the underlying gray metal composition that highlights its vintage charm. Please review all high-resolution photos carefully for a precise look at the condition.
Shipping Note: Due to the substantial weight of this sculpture, shipping will be handled strictly via Calculated Shipping based on your specific location and zip code. This ensures accurate shipping costs and safe, secure transit.
