Vintage Handmade in Egypt LARGE Sterling Silver one of one custom Steppe Eagle Pendant
This ULTRA rare Egyptian hand made pendant is truly in a league of its own. I have searched on the web for hours and hours, and have been unable to find something even remotely similar to this piece. I purchased the pendant in the early 90’s while visiting the Cairo, (capital of Egypt) which was one of if not the most extravagant cities I have ever been in. All of the jewelry that I purchased while visiting was handmade, and I actually had to wait until the end of my trip to pick up this pendant, along with another bracelet that I purchased, so that they could finish etching and polishing the piece. The most striking thing about this pendant is hands down the detail that was put into the eagle on the front of the pendant. I have never seen such intricate detail on a piece of silver. You are able to make out every feature on each one of the eagles. In the photos you are able to see that there are 4 birds total. One quite larger than the other the other two below, and if you look closely you will see a much smaller bird in the mouth of the beautiful Steppe eagle.
The “Steppe Eagle” is the national bird of Egypt. It is a highly endangered species of eagle that symbolizes both bravery and power due to how high the eagle soars above its enemies while they cannot reach it with their weapons or arrows. It also represents honor because it mates for life - and will not take another mate even if its current is killed by hunters. This bird is well known for its strength, independence, and ability to survive in harsh conditions. The Egyptian people see these qualities as representative of their own country and culture. The Egyptian people love to see them anywhere in country. The condition of the pendant is in fantastic shape, especially when you consider the fact that it is nearly 30 years old. There are no chips, dents, or tarnish anywhere to be found on the pendant. I simply no longer have much time to wear this piece, and do not wear it NEAR as much as it should be worn. Please enjoy this one of a kind piece if it winds up around your neck!
