Vintage hand-carved African wooden sculpture depicting a royal figure in the style of an Oba (king) of the historic Kingdom of Benin/Edo tradition of Nigeria.
Features an elaborate tall headdress and heavily carved layered neck and chest ornamentation reminiscent of the coral-bead regalia associated with Benin royalty.
Approximately 15" tall. Solid freestanding wood carving with extensive hand-carved detail on the front, sides and back.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
Exact age, maker and country of manufacture are unknown. Attribution is based on the sculpture's resemblance to Benin/Edo royal imagery; it is being offered as a decorative hand-carved work and not represented as a ceremonial or antiquity artifact.
A striking large-format African art display piece with great texture and character.
