This is a beautifully preserved vintage mid-century Hakata Kinkodo Co. "Washable Doll" individually hand-painted and crafted in Fukuoka, Japan. This dynamic figure depicts a traditional Japanese warrior practicing the art of Kyudo (archery), mid-pose with an extended wooden bow and holding a bi-colored red and black practice staff.Produced predominantly during the post-WWII / Korean War era (circa 1950–1954), Kinkodo dolls are highly distinct from regular clay Hakata figurines. They were specially treated with a matte, protective clear glaze that allowed them to be carefully cleaned, earning them the famous "Washable Doll" patent marketed toward Western travelers and military service members stationed in Japan.Key Features & Details:
  • Artisan Craftsmanship: Exceptional sculptural detail, from the archer's traditional eboshi hat down to the meticulously textured green kimono with floral coin crests.
  • Historical Era: Genuine mid-century Showa period collectible (1950s).
  • Vibrant Condition: Colors remain wonderfully rich and earth-toned with a beautifully soft, non-reflective matte finish.
Condition Report:
  • Please review the physical item photos for precise confirmation of condition.
  • The structural body is complete with no major structural breaks or restorations. Minor surface wear, dust, or superficial aging consistent with an authentic 70-year-old mid-century ceramic piece may be present.
