Vintage German Modernist Cast Bronze Statue Humorous Watchman w/Halberd c.1950s
Description:
Presented is a very interesting and impressive bronze statue made in Germany presumably around the late 1950s-1960s
The statue is cast of solid bronze in typical post-WWII German modernizm style with caricature watchman figure holding holding a halberd or rather a berdiche (a battle pole-axe). The funny thing is - the watchman seems to be asleep on his watch.
The post-WWII High modernism with Neo-expressionism was one of the most influential German artistic movements. This type of expression and stylization is very typical for German art of 1950-s - 1960s.
The statue is not marked but it came to me from Germany and the style is clearly German. It is hand-painted with some sort of sturdy laquer paint and mounted on a marble octagon-shaped pedestal
It is 14\" tall to the top of the halberd, the figure itself is 10\" without the pedestal, and quite heavy - it weights over 5 lb.
Excellent condition with no damage, breaks or repairs.
