OverviewA matched pair of vintage brass candlesticks, each standing 10.5 inches tall. Each one has a faceted baluster stem, a ring-turned section below it, and a faceted knop above a stepped round base with an incised ring. At the top, a faceted socket holds a wide, dished drip pan for taper candles. The brass has been polished to a bright, warm finish. They are heavy for their size and stand steadily, and they suit a dining table, mantel or sideboard, where a matched pair looks balanced.
BackgroundThe faceted baluster shape comes from English brass candlesticks of the 18th century, and it has been reproduced widely since. This pair is a later version of that classic Georgian design, likely mid-to-late 20th century. The undersides are covered with brown felt, and no maker\'s mark is visible. Together the pair weighs about 5 lb.
ConditionGood vintage condition with no breaks or visible repairs, and both stand straight. There are a few light scratches from use and polishing, and the felt on the undersides shows light wear. Inside the candle cups there are small spots of blue, green and yellow paint or wax, and one cup has a small red mark. Please see all photos.
