Norman Rockwell’s original 1959 oil painting was meticulously broken down color-by-color by a master engraver.A specialized multi-layered ceramic ink decal (a fine-art lithograph transfer) was applied to the center glaze of the plate.The plate was fired a second time, fusing the ink directly into the ceramic glaze so the colors wouldn't fade over time.
The signature aesthetic feature of this specific plate is its 1.75-inch outer band decorated with intricate gold floral filigree patterns. This design and the thin outer rim accent were applied over the glaze using liquid 22k gold leaf before a final, lower-temperature firing permanently bonded the precious metal to the porcelain rim.
