What it is: The landing site of Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space. Today, it is a grand memorial complex featuring a 27-meter obelisk shaped like a rising rocket, a monument to Gagarin, and the Park of Space Conquerors.

Where it is: Saratov Region, Engels District, Russia (USSR at the time), located about 16 km from the city of Engels, near the villages of Smelovka and Novaya Ternovka.

When it happened: April 12, 1961, at 10:55 AM Moscow time. Yuri Gagarin safely landed here via parachute after ejecting from the Vostok 1 descent capsule at an altitude of about 7 kilometers.
