Empire Airlines was a notable American regional airliner based out of Utica, New York, that primarily served the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, connecting mid-sized hubs across New York, New Jersey, and New England with major centers like Greater Buffalo International Airport and Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Founded in 1977, the carrier quickly established itself as a reliable commuter airline, expanding its schedule significantly before being acquired by Piedmont Airlines and ceasing independent operations in 1985. Throughout its history, Empire Airlines operated a modern, high-performance fleet perfectly tailored for rapid short-haul business travel, prominently flying the Fokker F28 Fellowship twinjets, the Fokker F27 Friendship turboprops, and Swearingen Metro commuter aircraft.
