Striking vintage cast bronze leaf bookends by Emilio Maraffi, offered as a matching pair.
Each bookend is sculpturally formed from a grouping of overlapping leaves with beautifully modeled veins, curved edges and dimensional botanical forms. The bronze has developed a wonderful aged green/verdigris patina, giving the pair an especially attractive Mid-Century decorative appearance.
Both pieces bear a faint Emilio Maraffi signature on the reverse/base.
Maraffi is known for distinctive cast bronze decorative objects and worked in association with noted American designer McClelland Barclay. Maraffi’s documented work also includes a circa-1940 bronze leaf-form piece made for Cartier, adding interest to his relatively uncommon surviving decorative works.
