Couroc of Monterey, California tray featuring a whimsical lion motif rendered in mixed-material inlay. The design is set into the surface—not painted—using Couroc’s signature process combining metal (brass), wood, and resin. The stylized lion with bristled mane and heart detail gives it strong mid-century modern character with a playful, graphic edge.
Couroc pieces were hand-crafted in California from the 1940s–1970s using a proprietary phenolic resin that is heat-resistant and extremely durable. Designs were created by embedding materials like brass, copper, abalone, and wood directly into the surface, making each piece both functional and decorative. Today they are widely collected for their distinctive MCM aesthetic and craftsmanship.
Good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Surface shows light scratches and handling marks consistent with age. Appears to have primarily been used as wall decor.
