Vintage Collectible Native American Taos Pueblo Deer Skin Quiver & Bow:
$389.00

Our Native American quiver, bow, and arrows are strictly decorative and made for display purposes. The set was handmade by Teresino (1900 – 1994) and Reycita Jiron (1908 – 1998) from Taos Pueblo in New Mexico in 1977. Teresino was the Lt. Governor of the Pueblo as well as the pueblo’s traditional War Chief. They used deer hide, tip of a deer tail, wood, and legal feathers.Mr. and Mrs. Jiron became friends of ours in 1976 when Cathy and I drove Lucy, the Jiron’s daughter, from Colorado Springs to Taos Pueblo during the winter break from my college sociology class in which Lucy was my student. Cathy and I spent a snowy night sleeping in our van parked outside Lucy’s home, listening to drumming and chanting drifting up from the kiva. We met Lucy’s parents, Teresino and Reycita Jiron, the next morning. They lived in the older walled section of the pueblo that has no electricity or water lines, and Reycita sent us to the river with a bucket for water. We enjoyed a breakfast Reycita prepared on her wood burning stove. Our friendship with the Jiron family grew over the following years. Teresino and Reycita would visit us at our Albuquerque home and stay with us for a week at a time. Teresino made this decorative quiver set for us using traditional local materials. We recently sold our home and moved into a retirement community where we have limited space in our small apartment, so we need to pass on our treasured Native American showpiece to someone who will appreciate its 47-year-old beauty and history. It has always been loveingly displayed in our smokefree home.It measures approximately 38".
