This is a charming vintage Chinese porcelain round box, featuring a vibrant iron red (or coral red) glaze with intricate gilt (gold) decoration. The box has a classic round form, with the lid showcasing beautiful hand-painted gold designs depicting blossoming floral motifs and delicate bamboo stalks. The gold detailing is quite fine and adds a luxurious touch.
The interior of the box and lid are a contrasting off-white or light grey porcelain. The base also features the iron red glaze, with a circular white unglazed or lightly glazed footrim area.
The base bears a four-character red overglaze mark in seal script, reading "乾隆年製" (Qianlong Nian Zhi), meaning "Made in the Qianlong Reign." While this mark refers to the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795), it is commonly found on later Chinese porcelain, typically from the late Qing Dynasty (19th century) or the Republic Period (early 20th century), as an homage to earlier styles. This indicates a vintage or antique decorative piece, rather than an imperial artifact of the Qianlong era.
This piece would make a wonderful addition to any collection of Chinese ceramics, particularly those focusing on red-glazed or gilt-decorated porcelain. It's perfect for storing small trinkets, jewelry, or simply as an elegant display piece.
