Large vintage Chinese embroidered textile featuring the traditional 百鳥朝鳳 (Bǎi Niǎo Cháo Fèng) motif, meaning “Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix.”
The scene features a large central phoenix surrounded by numerous colorful birds, flowering branches, pine trees, and landscape details. The four large Chinese characters read 百鳥朝鳳.
Approximate overall measurements: 76” long x 35” wide, including the white border.
The embroidery appears to be hand worked, with varied stitch direction, layered thread colors, and individually detailed birds and feathers. The gold-colored ground has a silk/satin appearance, but exact fiber content has not been tested.
Vintage pre-owned condition. This textile has been stored folded, resulting in visible fold lines, creasing, and wrinkles throughout. There may also be light age- or storage-related damage/wear, including minor pulls, loose threads, small marks, or other imperfections that may not be fully visible through the protective plastic.
The piece remains under/inside clear protective plastic. I have not removed the plastic, cleaned, pressed, ironed, or restored the textile.
Age is not definitively known. Based on appearance and construction, it is being offered as a vintage 20th-century Chinese decorative embroidery and is not represented as Qing Dynasty or any other specific historical period.
