Vintage cherry amber Bakelite necklace made of round faceted beads in a rich, glowing red with darker swirls. The beads are strung with no clasp and are meant to slip over the head. It weighs around 50 grams and measures approximately 28 inches total length. Interesting old clasp.
Cherry amber is the collector name for the translucent red-orange to reddish-brown Bakelite, an early phenolic plastic most popular in costume jewelry from the 1920s through the 1940s. This necklace has been tested and is positive for genuine Bakelite: it turns a cloth yellow when rubbed with Simichrome polish, the standard dealer test.
The color is deep and even, and the faceting catches the light. See photos for the exact size and weight.
