Case XX 1965-1969
✦ Take a good look at the bone on this one. This full-size Case XX 6254 trapper has the kind of color that makes you pick it up twice. The shield side runs from golden amber around the bolster into warm reddish-brown, while the reverse is a deep, dark brown with plenty of jigging still showing. Both sides have character, and each looks distinctly different.
The tang is stamped CASE XX / U.S.A., dating the knife to 1965–1969, with 6254 on the secondary blade. It’s a used knife and has seen some pocket time. You’ll find wear on the handles and bolsters, along with use and sharpening marks on the blades. Even so, the blades retain good, full profiles, the snap and mechanics are good, and I find no cracks in the bone.
This is one I’d be glad to set on the table at a knife show and let a fellow collector turn over in his hands. The photos show its honest wear, but they also show why the color caught my eye.
