Buck collector reference material indicates that the laminated birch handle replaced the earlier black Micarta configuration around 1981, while date-code symbols began appearing in 1986. The hinged presentation box is also associated with the earlier production period, making circa 1981–1985 the best estimate for this example.
The 401 Kalinga pattern uses an approximately 4¾-inch upswept skinner blade and is about 10 inches overall.
