Vintage Bonzo the Dog Toothbrush Holder - Occupied Japan 1947-1952 For Sale

WHAT A CUTIE!!!Bonzo the Dog toothbrush holder was made in Occupied Japan, between 1947 to 1952, during the Allied occupation of Japan.The U.S. particularly worked with Japan to help kick-start their economy and ceramic figurines of all kinds were part of that economic resurgence.Underside is marked "Made in Occupied Japan".George Studdy was a British commercial artist who created this cartoon character in the 1920s. Bonzo was his most famous character who was well-loved and massively popular at that time.The toothbrush holder is approximately 3 1/2" tall and approximately 3 1/2" long.
It is hand painted.
The hole in the back of the figurine is to hold toothbrushes, although I've heard some people have used theirs for small succulents or toothpicks.Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or other imperfections as shown.
