Item: (1) Vintage, original PHOTO taken of the Northerly Island and the North Lagoon in Chicago, Illinois during the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition in Chicago.
The large water feature illuminating the lagoon on the left is the Exposition Fountain (often called the North Lagoon Fountain or Grand Fountain). At the time, it was billed as the largest fountain system ever built, blasting over 68,000 gallons of water per minute in spectacle.
While some photographers did shoot the fairgrounds from airplanes, this specific angle aligns perfectly with the viewpoint from the fair's famous Sky Ride. The Sky Ride featured two massive, 625-foot-tall steel towers positioned on either side of this lagoon. Fairgoers and photographers regularly rode in rocket-shaped glass cars or went up to the tower observation decks to capture this exact panoramic layout of the waterfront buildings and illuminated fountains
