This is an important piece as it is rare to find a Black American woman photographed from this time period. Particularly one that is so beautiful and arresting to see. This is an original photograph from the period and has been enhanced with crayons to produce a painting-like effect. Truly a one of a kind piece.
This crayon enhancement was used during the time to make a photograph appear as a painting. It truly does work! Her gaze is so penetrating that I actually had to turn it around during storage as it was just a tad creepy to see when I entered my work room.
Original photo mounted on heavy card stock. Some wood burn located on back of card from acid contact. An inconspicuous water stain is at lower left border. See pictures.
