Vintage Austin Productions ‘Bast’ Cat Sculpture 1965 For Sale

For sale is a vintage replica of the ancient Egyptian cat sculpture, of the goddess Bastet (also known as Bast), that is exhibited in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. This piece was made by Austin Productions in 1965, and it is stamped on the back of the sculpture. Bastet is the ancient Egyptian Goddess of the Home and she protected households from evil spirits, contagious diseases, pests, and threats to women and children. The cat is cast in a heavy durastone composition material and has a blackish bronze finish. It has vertigris green highlights and is mounted to a wood base. The sculpture stands 12” tall and the base is 4.5” x 6.5”. This piece is heavy, weighing almost 5 pounds. There is a mold mark on the top of the cat’s head, but other than that, this piece is in beautiful condition.
