Vintage Antique Pat July 9, 1876 Rare Saw Set Tool
Patent Number 66,484S Date: Jul. 9, 1867 Patent was awarded to "John Geer"This tool was found literally encapsulated in somewhat hardened oily sawdust. Sometime in the past it had dropped between the floorboards of what was a work shed, looks like it landed in sawdust then got covered over in it. The old building that was about ready to fall down located on a farm in the Catskill area of New York, during demolition (it was in a dangerous condition) it was found.All I did to it was clean the "gunk" (that's a technical term) off with compressed air and a stiff nylon brush then because the thumbscrews did not turn easily although they moved I spritzed it with some Gibbs Brand product.One of the photos shows a bit of orange oxide dust in spots (rust) on it, I included that pic so you could see what it looked like before I applied the Gibbs.Everything moves as it should, thumb screws have full range of movement. The jaws work fine and the spring even returns the handles to the open position when you loosen your grip.
I looked, I couldn't find another one of these listed anywhere. As such I used the word "Rare"
