This vintage square pill case features a translucent marbled amber-colored Lucite or acrylic top set into a silver-tone metal case with an all-over hammered texture.
Open the hinged lid and there's a molded cream-colored insert divided diagonally into two separate compartments—a practical little design for keeping pills or tablets separated while traveling or carrying them in a handbag.
The warm amber top has beautiful variations of caramel, honey and deep brown that become especially apparent in the light, giving this small functional object a surprisingly rich decorative presence.
Based on its materials, hardware, construction and styling, we conservatively date the piece to approximately the 1950s–1960s. No maker or country-of-origin mark was found.
The amber-colored material has the appearance of period Lucite/acrylic; because the material is not marked or independently tested, we describe it conservatively as Lucite or acrylic rather than genuine amber.
The box is in good vintage condition with normal age-related wear. The metal case shows expected surface wear and finish variation, and the cream interior has light age-related marks and discoloration. A small chip/loss is present at one rear edge near the hinge and is shown in the close-up photograph.
