• The Origin: The company started as the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company, founded in Denver, Colorado in 1910 by Jesse Shwayder.
• The \'Samson\' Name: In 1921, Shwayder made a sturdy suitcase and named it \"Samson\" after the biblical strongman.
• The Folding Tables: During the Great Depression in 1931, sagging luggage sales forced the company to branch out, leading to the creation of wooden-legged folding card tables under the Samson name.
• The Name Change: By 1941, the company used \'Samsonite\' for its popular vulcanized fiber suitcases. Because the Samsonite brand became so famous, the business officially changed its name to the Samsonite Corporation in 1965.
• Furniture Division: For many years, the Samsonite Furniture Co. subsidiary continued to make folding chairs and card tables in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, before selling the furniture line in 1973.\"

This multi-colored thin aluminum sign is 21 3/4\" wide, 3 7/8\" high, with 4 well used holes for mounting. There is some slight outward bending over the length of this sign, with light scratching and paint loss. The back side has some scratching and paint overspray.This is an original piece, not a reproduction. Overall condition is good.
This sign would have been used as a form of advertising for the company\'s Strong wooden-legged folding tables from the 1930s thru the 1960s and later. The sign uses three types of lettering font to attract attention, while the yellow lettering on the navy blue background is eye-catching.
This will make a unique and nostalgic addition to any collection of vintage advertising memorabilia, especially in your card/party room. We have never seen another one of these advertising signs in our lifetime of advertising collecting. The aluminum is very thin, so it\'s possible it was easily damaged and thrown away, so not many around anymore.The dark background is shiny, and except for the scratching, is uniform. I can\'t seem to get a good photo without a flash, so I apologize for the reflections on the navy blue color.
