Up for buy-it-now is a rare early-20th-century German straight razor custom-imported for A B C Barber Supply Co. out of Washington, D.C., branded "Joe Wagner's Special." Featuring ornate filigree end caps and translucent honey-amber scales, this piece is a standout collectible that is fully set up for immediate use.
Blade & Scale Condition
Blade: Premium German carbon steel with a full hollow grind and distinctive lattice checkering stamped on the shank behind the stabilizer. Tang stamps are deep and fully legible on both sides ("JOE WAGNER'S SPECIAL" on the front; "A B C BARBER SUPPLY WASHINGTON D.C. MADE IN GERMANY" on the reverse). Clean face with light, age-appropriate character.
Scales & Hardware: Translucent amber-yellow celluloid in exceptional condition with no cracks, warp, or sign of celluloid degradation. Outfitted with decorative nickel-silver filigree capping the pivot and a stamped "SPECIAL A B C" emblem cap at the tail. Pins are tight and the blade centers cleanly between the scales.
Edge Preparation
Honing: Bevel set and finished using a progression on natural Black and Green Shadow French hones to achieve a smooth, keen, shave-ready edge.
