Vintage 7\" Okinawan Shisa Pair - Japanese Ceramic Foo Dog Guardian Lions - Matched Male & Female SetUp for sale is a beautiful, matched vintage pair of traditional Okinawan Shisa guardian lions (Japanese Foo Dogs / Shi Shi). Standing at a substantial 7 inches tall, these statues are heavily sculpted with incredible detail and a rich, high-gloss caramel-tan and dark olive-green glazed finish.This set includes the traditional male and female pair:
• Open-Mouthed Shisa: The male, traditionally placed on the right to scare off evil spirits.
• Closed-Mouthed Shisa: The female, traditionally placed on the left to keep good fortune inside the home.The dramatic swirling textures along their manes and upright tails give them fantastic dimension. The undersides feature vintage green protective felt pads to prevent scratching on your tabletops or shelves.

This matched pair is in very good vintage condition with bright, glossy glaze. There are no accidental chips, cracks, or post-production repairs anywhere along the delicate tips of the teeth or tails.
• Please Note: One of the Shisa statues features a small, tight line on the back of its ear. This is a natural firing crack (manufacturing flaw) that occurred in the kiln when the piece was originally made. The dark green glaze has naturally bled smoothly into the separation, meaning it is not a structural break or a repair. It is completely stable.
