BUCK’S STATEMENT:
There’s history in this glass—real, working-class Wisconsin history. People’s Brewing Co. served the heart of Oshkosh for decades, long before corporate beer took over the landscape. It wasn’t just a brewery—it was a neighborhood staple, a symbol of pride, and eventually, a groundbreaking chapter in American history. In 1970, the brewery was purchased by Theodore “Ted” Mack and a group of Milwaukee investors, making People’s widely recognized as the first Black-owned brewery in the United States. It stood as more than a beer company—it became a statement of ownership, opportunity, and progress at a time when the industry was anything but inclusive.
But what makes this glass even more special is the honest imperfection that slipped through the cracks of production. On this early run, “Oshkosh” was accidentally misspelled as “Oskosh”—a rare factory misprint that never should have hit the public, yet somehow survived. Most were corrected or discarded, but this one endured. It’s a quirky, human error frozen in time, a tangible reminder that history isn’t always polished—it’s real. Between the brewery’s cultural significance and this glass’s uncommon label flaw, you’re not just holding breweriana… you’re holding a story worth telling.
