This is a 2005 Boswell Bent Dublin, stamped on the shank with his script signature. The pipe has a diamond shank, meaning it has flat faceted panels rather than a round taper. That diamond shank is the detail that tells you someone took their time with this one. It is more work to shape correctly and it shows.
Pick this pipe up and the diamond shank gives your fingers something to settle into. Instead of a slick round surface that can feel like it wants to twist in your hand, the flat panels give you a natural grip point, almost like the pipe was made to be held a certain way. Combined with the bent stem, this sits comfortably in the hand and clenches well if that is your style.
The finish is a contrast style, smooth honey colored briar across most of the bowl with a rough textured patch left unsmoothed on one side. That contrast catches the light differently depending on the angle and gives the pipe some real character instead of a flat, uniform look.
The bowl has some minor char buildup that is photographed honestly. The stem shows good gloss with no tooth chatter.
Boswell makes these by hand out of Chambersburg, PA, and the diamond shank pipes do not show up as often as their round shank production. If you like a pipe that feels deliberate in the hand rather than just round and smooth, this is one to consider.
