Unique vintage1992 Farnum Nantucket-style basket pursefeaturing a beautifully crafted wooden handle andfaux scrimshaw artwork on both the exterior and interior of the lid.
Theexterior faux scrimshaw plaquedepicts a dramatic New England whaling scene, with asperm whale breaching beside a small whaleboat carrying sailors, while a traditionalmulti-masted whaling shipsails in the background. The detailed scene captures the romance and history of New England\'s maritime and whaling tradition.
On theinside of the purse lidis a second faux scrimshaw panel featuring“Head Harbor” by Tom Miller, dated November 1986. This additional artwork is a wonderful hidden detail that makes the purse especially interesting from both a decorative and collectible standpoint.
The purse also incorporates anoriginal 1992 Lincoln penny, adding a distinctive period detail corresponding to the purse\'s 1992 date.
