These are all from the 1972 presidential campaign era. The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History has McGovern campaign buttons in its collection, including a 1972 McGovern-Shriver button, confirming this type of memorabilia as part of the historical campaign-button collecting category.
The large sepia button is particularly identifiable: the visible marking on your button reads “Copyright 1972 Votes Unlimited Corp. Ferndale, N.Y.”, and Votes Unlimited-produced McGovern buttons from 1972 are documented by collectors/dealers.
Condition
Vintage used condition. The buttons have varying degrees of age-related wear, including scratches, scuffs, surface marks, discoloration and edge wear.
The large sepia portrait button has noticeable spotting/staining. The black-and-white portrait button has surface wear and scratches. The green/white or blue/white buttons also show some wear.
The McGovern Shriver button in the paper holder appears especially nice because it remains in its original presentation. The paper holder itself has age-related discoloration and wear.
Please use the photographs as part of the condition description.
