Up for sale, from my personal collection, is a pair of vintage Faber-Castell Oakland Raiders No. 2 pencils, both new, unused and unsharpened. Theyâre from Faber-Castellâs NFL team pencil line of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Each pencil has a silver finish with âOAKLAND RAIDERSâ in italic black lettering, framed by two Raiders helmet logos, plus âNo 2â and âFaber Castellâ stamped on the barrel. Both still have their original metal ferrules and pink erasers. Theyâre great for Raiders collectors, especially fans of the original Oakland era, since the team left for Los Angeles in 1982.
Provenance: From my personal collection. These pencils have been kept unused and unsharpened since elementary school!

In the 1970s, the Raiders were one of the NFLâs most dominant and colorful teams. Under coach John Madden, with stars like Ken Stabler, Fred Biletnikoff, Art Shell and Gene Upshaw, they won Super Bowl XI after the 1976 season. Under Tom Flores, they won Super Bowl XV after the 1980 season, their last title before moving to Los Angeles in 1982. Faber-Castellâs licensed NFL team pencils were sold at school and stationery counters across America. Unsharpened examples have survived in surprisingly small numbers, since most were used up in classrooms.
