Vintage 1969 Mexican Onyx Banded Calcite Stone Ashtray Catchall 4.78 lbs. For Sale

Beautiful vintage Mexican onyx / banded calcite natural stone decorative piece, personally purchased by me in Mexico in 1969.I bought this piece while visiting Mexico as a child and have owned it ever since. It has remained in my possession for more than 55 years, so unlike many vintage pieces, its history and approximate age are known directly from the original owner.This is a substantial piece of natural stone weighing approximately 4.78 pounds (about 4 lb. 12.5 oz.). It measures approximately 8½–9 inches long, 5½–6 inches wide, and up to approximately 2½ inches thick.The stone has beautiful natural cream, honey, caramel, brown and white banding throughout. One of the most attractive features is the exposed side, which displays the numerous layers and wavy bands within the stone. The top has a naturally irregular form with a carved and polished recessed area, making it suitable as a vintage ashtray, catchall, or simply a decorative mineral/stone display piece.The small felt protective pads on the bottom are not original. I added those myself to help protect furniture surfaces.This piece has never passed through multiple owners, an estate sale, or an antique dealer.
