These photographic production materials were acquired directly from the corporate catalog archives of Mid America Motorworks, historically known for its Mid America Air-Cooled Volkswagen product lines, in Effingham, Illinois.
PROVENANCE & PRODUCTION HIGHLIGHTS
The Vehicle:
Features a meticulously restored, classic black 1962 Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle, commonly known as the VW Bug.
The Sleeve Provenance:
The original master layout archival sleeves are handwritten with the vehicle identification: ”’62 Bug John Smithhisler.” This preserves the original archival reference identifying the car and its owner.
Complete Multi-Setting Catalog Sequence:
This substantial 27-piece collection documents an extensive, multi-angle photography session intended for a multi-page catalog feature. The images showcase the Beetle in two distinctive settings:
1. Rustic Americana Setting:
Features weathered country barns, old-fashioned wooden storefronts, open rural landscapes, and traditional windmills, creating a nostalgic backdrop for the classic Beetle.
2. Industrial Railroad Setting:
Features dramatic photography in a railroad yard, including gravel rail beds, close-up views alongside massive steel locomotives, railcar #1139, and striking chrome wheel reflections against the railroad tracks.
The Format:
