You are buyingan original hard to find hydroplane button from 1962. This button never reachedcirculation. IT WAS NEVER ISSUED. BillHarrah, the money man and promoter behind the Harrah’s Tahoe ChampionshipRegatta on Lake Tahoe, took one look at it and held back the distribution.
The backstory is that the design of this button was awarded to an artist who developedthe image you see on this button. But Harrah did not like it. He felt it wastoo goofy and cartoonish. He dumped the ‘artistic’ project and went back to thepresses with a different (and common) Regatta Pin that had an entirelydifferent design. A few of theseoriginal Googly Eye pins escaped the dumpster and found their way into high endcollections. This one is a nice one.
Description:A beautiful button in mint condition. Never circulated. Colors are bright andvibrant, and there is no hint of rust or water damage or foxing. Some slight surface wear, from being storedin someone’s sock drawer all these years.Exceptional. This is a largebutton, and measures 3” in diameter.
