Vintage Stanwell Selected Briar 84R – Regd. No. 969-48 – Hand Made in Denmark
A beautiful older Danish-made Stanwell estate pipe from the desirable Registration era, most likely dating to the 1960s.
This large 84R is an unusually long Stanwell shape, generally identified as a large Lumberman/Canadian-style pipe with a long oval shank and tapered vulcanite stem. The pipe measures approximately 7 inches long, giving it an elegant, substantial profile.
The smooth briar displays very attractive natural grain, including prominent birdseye around the bowl and flowing grain along the shank. The warm reddish-brown finish shows the grain especially well in natural sunlight.

The original Stanwell “S” logo is still faintly visible on the stem, although the original color fill is no longer present.

The pipe has been carefully cleaned inside and out, including the bowl, airway, shank and stem. It remains in very attractive vintage condition. The rim and bowl present well, with normal evidence of previous use. The vulcanite stem has been cleaned and polished but retains normal age-related wear and some discoloration/oxidation visible under strong light. The Stanwell stem logo is faint but can still be seen. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
A particularly attractive example of an older Danish Stanwell, combining the desirable Regd. No. 969-48, Selected Briar designation, large 84R shape and approximately 7-inch overall length.
