Measuring an impressive approximately 7 feet x 7 feet, this enormous commercial advertising banner features a large portrait of Earl Scheib surrounded by a yellow field, his name in the familiar red script, and bold multicolor AUTO PAINTING lettering across the bottom.
This is an original period advertising piece, not one of the modern reproduction Earl Scheib banners currently offered for garage décor. Constructed of heavy flexible coated canvas/fabric with metal grommets around the perimeter for hanging.
Earl Scheib became one of the most recognizable names in American automotive history, building a nationwide chain of auto-painting shops and becoming famous for his memorable advertising and promise to paint virtually any car at a remarkably low price. His portrait and name became instantly recognizable to generations of American motorists.
The sheer size and visual impact of this banner are exceptional. At roughly 49 square feet, it was made to be seen from a distance and would make a spectacular centerpiece in a serious automobilia collection, vintage garage, restoration shop, automotive museum, showroom or large display space.
Condition: Overall very good vintage condition for its age, with strong color and well-preserved graphics across the majority of the banner. Age and storage-related deterioration is primarily concentrated in the center area, where long-term folding has resulted in creasing, cracking, flaking and areas of loss to the coated graphic surface through portions of Earl Scheib\'s face and suit. The surrounding portrait, background, lettering and outer portions remain comparatively well preserved. Original perimeter grommets are present. No restoration has been attempted. Please examine all photographs closely, including the detailed images of the central wear.
We have located another surviving example displaying the same Earl Scheib portrait and Auto Painting artwork, but examples of this large original banner appear to be exceptionally difficult to find. Original Earl Scheib advertising has become highly collectible among automotive and vintage-sign enthusiasts.
