The badge on this BRM keyring dates to the 1960s, or perhaps the late ‘50s and it was made by an unknown badge maker in England. The manufacturer of the leather key fob is the well-known Melsom Products.
Bud Marston describes such ‘key fob anomalies’ in his book on vintage Jaguar keyrings. I have shared a photo of the relevant page from Bud’s book.
I believe that this BRM keyring is an example of such an anomaly. I also believe that the badge and key fob were mated in period.
I say this because the stitching pattern and type of thread used seem consistent with other Keyflix key fobs. Additionally, I do not recall having seen a BRM badge made by Melsom. If so, Melsom may have purchased loose BRM badges to mount on their own key fobs. Please reach out to me if you are experienced with such details—I am happy to hear your assessment.
With that said, the BRM badge is in excellent condition. The key fob shows some scuff marks, perhaps from limited use and/or storage, but it too remains in great condition.
I’m hoping that someone who appreciates the history of BRM and Raymond Mays might become interested in this keyring. The key fob anomaly seems to add an additional layer to this already rich history.
Thanks for your interest. I will accept returns if you are not happy with your purchase.
