Up for sale is an original 1959 Cold War era West German Bundeswehr / BGS (Federal Border Guard) Canteen (Feldflasche), patterned directly after the classic WWII M31 model.
Complete field rig featuring:
Cap: Knurled aluminum screw cap clearly stamped H.R.E. 59 (Heinrich Ritter, Esslingen, 1959).
Cup: Tall painted aluminum cup with folding wire handles and dark olive green finish.
Cover: Insulated felt cover with side snap closures.
Harness: Dark leather strap harness with horizontal belly loop, buckle, and rear belt attachment hook.
Cover: The felt outer shell has hardened, darkened, and developed surface crazing/cracking to the fabric finish over time, but remains solid without large missing sections or blowouts.
Hardware & Cup: Straps remain attached and intact. The painted cup shows normal field paint loss and rim scratching from nesting over the body. Aluminum cap threads on smoothly.
