Stamped with the General Electric (GE) logo

A wonderful piece of General Electric and Schenectady, New York history! This matching set of four vintage Syracuse China bowls features the classic General Electric “GE” monogram on the underside of each bowl.

The black “2-JJ” Syracuse China U.S.A. backstamp dates these bowls to February 1955. Syracuse China was well known for producing durable commercial dinnerware for restaurants, hotels, railroads and institutional customers. The GE marking indicates these were made for General Electric.

My grandfather worked for GE in Schenectady, NY, retiring in 1964, and the bowls came down through the family from him. Family belief is that they may have originally been used in a GE employee cafeteria or commissary and later made available to employees when older dinnerware was replaced.
