A Little More About This Piece
The "20th Century Limited" wasn't just a train —it was a symbol of American luxury travel at its peak, complete with its ownred-carpet boarding ceremony that gave rise to the phrase "red carpettreatment." This set marks a real moment in that train's history, and acomplete set of 8 surviving together after more than 70 years is genuinely hardto find.
According to the July–August 1952 issue of New York Central's employee magazine Headlight, these 10-ounce glasses were offered to NYC employees in sets of eight as souvenirs commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 20th Century Limited. The glasses reproduced the design used aboard the train's dining and lounge cars and featured the train's crest in gold with the inscription “Fiftieth Anniversary—June 15, 1952.”
